*The following Sites included but are not limited to and may be updated without notice:
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,POWER RATING
Beginning in 2022, G. Loomis will standardize the numerical Power Rating system for conventional rod models. All future rod series updates will utilize the same Powers Rating system ranging from 00 (Ultra Light) to 6 (Extra Extra Heavy).
Example: We consider an 843 JWR (3 Power) a Medium Heavy. Previously, a 1205 STFR (5 Power) was called a Medium Heavy rod and will now transition to a 1203 (3 Power) to align with the new Power Rating of Medium Heavy.
Power Rating:
00 = Ultra Light
0 = Light
1 = Medium Light
2 = Medium
3 = Medium Heavy
4 = Heavy
5 = Extra Heavy
6 = Extra Extra Heavy
OUR MATERIALS
Reading through this catalog, you may notice a few terms repeated in reference to our graphite materials and performance ratings:
- Modulus: The rating used to describe the stiffness-to-weight ratio of a fiber. Higher modulus materials are inherently lighter and provide improved sensitivity.
- Tensile Strength: The maximum load that can be applied before the fibers fail. The higher the tensile strength of the fiber the stronger it is.
- Resin: Viscous material that infiltrates gaps in the laminate and encapsulates each fiber. Essentially, it’s the glue that bonds the blank together. The more advanced the resin system, the lighter and stronger the rod becomes.
Following, you’ll find descriptions of our proprietary technologies and corresponding performance benefits.
ROD ACTIONS
Extra-Fast Action
A very light and sensitive tip facilitates an effective transfer of energy resulting in effortless pinpoint casts, near or far. This action will make any angler a more effective caster in short to medium range fishing applications while giving the angler more immediate power for the hook-set and the ensuing fight
Fast Action
This action is the most universal of actions offered by G. Loomis. Fast action rods have a light tip that transfers into the power quickly for positive hook sets and effortless repetitive casting. If you are looking for a rod to do it all- a fast action rod is a solid choice.
Moderate-Fast
The deeper flex associated with this action allows the angler to control the energy of the fish with enough backbone to penetrate on the hookset. This action offers an unsurpassable ability land the majority of fish hooked on even the lightest finesse presentation utilizing small hooks. Since the rod flexes reactively to maintain constant tension at all times, it facilities a direct connection to the fish.
Moderate
Whenever an angler needs the perfect action to absorb the surging power of a fish delivering aggressive headshakes or quick runs, a moderate action rod neutralizes their power. Anytime an angler needs a fish to take your offering without feeling any resistance from the rod until the hookset.

SINGLE-HAND GRIP SHAPES
Cigar Grip
Ideal for stalking the most technical trout, our cigar handle excels at delicate presentations where accuracy defines the zeros from the heroes.
Half Wells Grip
Our ultra-comfortable half wells grip provides accuracy for “far & fine” dry fly presentations without sacrificing power when it’s time to re-rig for going deep. A versatile handle shape perfectly suited for versatile rods like NRX and Asquith.
Micro Full Wells Grip
Casting and fishing chub/rub combos, chunky indicator rigs, and wind resistant streamers requires a handle shape that efficiently transfers energy into line speed. Our micro full wells grip has the ideal shape and diameter for delivering the goods when power is at a premium.
Full Wells Grip
Careful consideration went into the design of our full wells grip. The recessed rear pocket lets your hand slide easily towards the reel when shooting for distance while the slightly larger front pocket provides the perfect “power button” when it’s time to punch into the wind.
ROD ACTIONS
Extra-Fast/Salt Action
Aggressive for extreme angling environments. Our extra-fast saltwater tapers boast premium pick-up ability and help casters close the gap between the bow and distant shadows. Models: NRX+S, NRX+ T2S, GLX CrossCurrent
Fast/Salt Action
Fast with a dash of forgiveness, these versatile saltwater tapers combine a powerful butt and mid-section with a progressive flexing tip. The result is an action prime for both accurate short-game performance and gust-crushing line speed for long shots in unfavorable conditions. Models: Asquith (line #: 7-12)
Streamer Action
Lift, toss, and animate meat like a boss. With positive, slightly stiffer tip sections, these actions are tuned for quick pick-ups and enhanced “feel” when swimming chunky articulated patterns. A sweetened mid-section (compared to our Fast/Salt Action tapers) minimizes “rod bounce”, a common occurrence when slinging heavy sinking lines and large flies. Models: NRX+ SF, IMX-PRO Streamer, IMX-PRO-1 Streamer, IMX-PROm
Fast/Freshwater Action
Actions built to crush performance requirements of modern trout fishing techniques. An ultra-stable, positive tip precisely delivers wind resistant hopper/dropper combos, weighted streamers, and beefy indicator rigs. Ideal for fisheries where menacing wind is an everyday possibility. Models: IMX-PRO (Line #: 4-6), NRX+ (Line #: 4-6)
Medium-Fast/Freshwater Action
Easy loading and ultra-versatile, our medium-fast/freshwater actions are designed to cover the widest range of conditions and techniques. A slightly softer tip section than our fast freshwater actions promotes tight, aerodynamically stable loops. With boosted power levels through the bottom half of the rod, there’s plenty of juice to drop dries on distant spooky sippers. Models: Asquith (Line #: 4-6)
Light Presentation Action
When delicate presentation is paramount, our award-winning light presentation action offers supreme performance. While “moderate flex” best describes this action, the mid and butt sections deliver a surprising amount of sneaky power. That, combined with a quick-recovering tip section, help anglers track precisely when casting to targets both near and far. Models: NRX+ LP, IMX-PROc
